Boston Market Lasagna Recall
March 5, 2008 | Reviewer: Abi Jones
The danger-beef used in school lunches across the country was also part of the Boston Market Frozen Foods supply chain. According to Nicole, Boston Market Lasagna with Meat Sauce is a five star meal, so I don’t look forward to her reaction when she sees this news.
Boston Market is currently recalling 40,000 cases of potentially harmful lasagna, which is an insane amount of lasagna when you think about it. You could build a house out of that much lasagna.
At this time, consumers with questions can contact the Boston Market Frozen Food Consumer Helpline at 1-800-488-0050. The Boston Market Frozen Meals website is generally static so I’m not sure when they’ll be updating it with recall info.
Update: Products affected by the recall have lot codes: NQ7K04, NQ7K11, NQ7K22, NQ7L13, NQ7M21 and NQ8A24.
I’ll update this post as further information becomes available.
2 Weeks and Counting
January 25, 2008 | Reviewer: Abi Jones
In April 2007 (yes, almost a year ago) I asked the readers of HeatEatReview.com to participate in a survey, a survey of which frozen food they’d like to see me review in a video. The selected item was Kid Cuisine Deep Sea Adventure Fish Sticks.
I didn’t realize it would take me months just to find the fish sticks. And now I know why they aren’t carried in more than one store per metropolitan area. They are dangerously mind-altering:

Notice that I’ve gone from innocent (albeit, blurry) to in-focus and haunted? Yeah, that’s what these fish sticks will do to you.
I’ve been filming, editing, putting together some music and realizing that I was a fool to think that I could accomplish my vision with the software that came with my PC. I’m still trying to figure out exactly how to incorporate video reviews (yes, I said reviews, with an ’s’, plural) into HeatEatReview.com.
I’ve had (and am still having) a lot of fun making this video and I can’t wait to share it with you on February 8, 2008.
Ground Beef Recalls in 2007
November 3, 2007 | Reviewer: Abi Jones
Here’s a list of recent ground beef recalls for those of you that might be freaking out right now:
| Date of Recall | Company | Amount Affected | Area Affected |
|---|---|---|---|
| 02 November 2007 | Cargill | Over 1 million pounds | Giant, Shop Rite, Stop & Shop, Wegmans and Weis in Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. |
| 25 September 2007 | Topps | Over 27 million pounds | USDA Alert (PDF) |
| 03 June 2007 | United Food Group | 75,000 pounds | USDA Alert |
I give up. After typing of three of the recall info notices I got grossed out and decided that if you want to know about all of the ongoing meat recalls, you should check out the United States Department of Agriculture’s site yourself. It is pretty creepy when you see the crazy sorts of things that are getting into our food supply.
So, if you’d like to go on in your merry, oblivious ways, don’t click the links below. Otherwise, feel free to check out the Food Safety and Inspection Service:
Happy tailgating!
Totino’s and Jeno’s Pizza Recall
November 1, 2007 | Reviewer: Abi Jones
That’s right folks, another recall. This one is for Totino’s and Jeno’s pizzas, produced by General Mills. They believe that source of the problem is contaminated pepperoni. The company has not released the name of the pepperoni distributor, but with all of the freaking out we had about the Banquet Pot Pies, I’m sure that the information will come out eventually.
If you have a Jeno’s or Totino’s Pizza in your freezer Do Not Eat It. I don’t even know why I feel compelled to type that. Y’all aren’t idiots and you can certainly figure out how to go about not eating a pizza.
Jeno’s Pizza Recall List
- 6.8-ounce packages of "JENO’S CRISP `N TASTY PIZZA, Pepperoni."
SKU Number: 35300-00572 - 7.0-ounce packages of "JENO’S CRISP `N TASTY PIZZA, Combination Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza."
SKU Number: 35300-00576 - 7.2-ounce packages of "JENO’S CRISP `N TASTY PIZZA, Supreme Sausage and Pepperoni with Green Peppers and Onion Pizza."
SKU Number: 35300-00561
Totino’s Pizza Recall List
- 10.2-ounce packages of "Totino’s The Original Crisp Crust Party Pizza Pepperoni."
SKU Number: 42800-11400
SKU Number: 42800-92114 - 10.2-ounce packages of "Totino’s The Original Crisp Crust Party Pizza, Classic Pepperoni."
SKU Number: 42800-11402 - 10.2-ounce packages of "Totino’s The Original Crisp Crust Party Pizza, Pepperoni Trio."
SKU Number: 442800-72157 - 10.7-ounce packages of "Totino’s The Original Crisp Crust Party Pizza, Combination Sausage & Pepperoni Pizza."
SKU Number: 42800-11600
SKU Number: 42800-92116 - 10.5-ounce packages of "Totino’s Original Crisp Crust Party Pizza, Three Meat Sausage, Canadian Style Bacon & Pepperoni Pizza."
SKU Number: 42800-10800 - 10.9-ounce packages of "Totino’s The Original Crisp Crust Party Pizza, Supreme Sausage & Pepperoni Pizza with Green Peppers & Onions."
SKU Number: 42800-10700
What should you do with your Totino’s or Jeno’s pizza?
First, take it out of the box. You’re going to need that box. Then, without unwrapping the pizza, toss it in the trash. Then, if you want a replacement pizza, clip the bar code from the box and mail it, along with your name and address, to:
Totino’s/Jeno’s
P.O. Box 200 — Pizza
Minneapolis, MN 55440-0200
But really, are you sure that you want a replacement pizza? Maybe you should sleep on it. Free pizza or kidney failure, the choice is yours.*
At this time (1:36pm Pacific on Nov. 2nd), DiGiorno’s pizzas are not being recalled. Sure, 5 million Jeno’s and Totino’s pizzas are being recalled, but your DiGiorno pizzas and Freschetta pizzas are safe. For now. If things change, I’ll update this post.
*I’m just kidding. For all I know, the new pizzas being produced are safe. General Mills is totally blaming the pepperoni supplier and claims that their factory is E. Coli free.
