Simply Enjoy says: White chicken tenderloins are seasoned and blended with succulent red and green peppers and cashews glazed with a citrus sauce, served with jasmine-scented rice.
Sarah says: I have to say, this meal was pretty good overall. As it was heating up in the microwave, it smelled delicious, which is always a good sign. The food is divided into two sections: the rice and the… well, we’ll call it the meat. But really? It would more aptly be termed the “sauce.” On the left side of the dish sat the rice, steaming, ample-sized, and — as I would soon find out — delicious. On the right side, however, were two itsy-bitsy pieces of chicken. I mean, they were so small that Abi actually asked, “Where’s the meat?” Now, was it delicious chicken? Yes, it was! However, an M&M is delicious too, but that doesn’t mean it is filling.
The proper way to eat this meal (I’m pretty sure, and if I’m wrong, who’s going to correct me?) is to spoon all of the sauce/meat on to the rice, and then enjoy. I have to say that despite the fact that I felt seriously cheated in the fowl department, the food actually did make for a filling lunch. They give you a lot of rice, and the sauce really was fantastic.
All in all, this makes a decent lunch if you’re not craving protein, and at only 390 calories, it would be good choice for someone who’s trying to lose a little of that holiday baggage. I certainly wouldn’t recommend it for dinner, though. And hey, maybe other boxes contain more meat: maybe my second chicken just got away. Good for you, Mr. Chicken. Good for you.

Safeway says: A Real Indulgence! Prepared to perfection with the finest quality ingredients, including fresh cream, and real butter, delicately topped with toasted bread crumbs.
Sarah says: Now don’t get me wrong, Safeway’s macaroni was delicious. But unfortunately, dear reader, I cannot give you a strong recommendation to buy said macaroni. Because while it was cheesy, filling, and, well, macaroni-y to the last bite, it was also HUGE. To their credit, Safeway does clearly state on the front of their box the fact the meal inside contains 2 servings—an apparent attempt to indicate to you, the buyer, that you are supposed to share.
But I ask you: who shares macaroni?
Not I. When I heat up some frozen macaroni at work, I want to eat every last cheese-a-riffic noodle in the box. When faced with the giant box of Safeway noodles and mystery cheese, I had a difficult decision on my hands. Act properly and eat the entire thing, thus consuming 700 calories, or be a wimp and break out the Tupperware?
Those who know me well will know that I ate it all. However, I wouldn’t allow myself to be tempted into gluttony a second time, and thus would probably not purchase Safeway’s macaroni again. I would really only recommend it to people with a strong willpower than my own, or those who are eating it for dinner after a very long (and calorie burning!) day.
As for the actual food? The noodles were of a good consistency, and the cheese was thick. The added “bread crumbs†didn’t really seem to be bread, as far as I could tell, but they were tasty nonetheless. The only other complaint that I had is the amount of time it took to cook—approximately 15 minutes in the microwave! I could have boiled up an entire pot of Kraft in that time… and they come in spirals.

Simply Asia says: Authentic Asian Noodles with sweet & sour sauce, vegetables, and crunchy shallot sesame seed topping. Fork included.
Sarah says: When Abi asked me if I liked sweet & sour foods, I was excited. When she handed me the box of hot, steaming noodles, I was ecstatic! Well, if such a thing is even possible at 11:30am on a Monday morning.
While Mondays are often disappointing, I was not let down by this box of noodles. The first thing that I noticed about this meal was the fact that the noodles were absolutely delicious. They weren’t soggy or powdery, as microwavable pasta has a tendency to be. They were very thick and extremely filling; so filling that I couldn’t even finish the entire box. This is probably a good thing, seeing as how at 740 calories, this chow mein would better serve my diet as 2 or 3 meals. Luckily, though, the 4 grams of fat and complete lack of saturated fat makes me feel a little bit better about the entire experience.
The sauce was indeed a good mixture of both sweet and sour flavors. The peppers involved gave it extra flavor, which I’m sure I would have enjoyed more if I actually liked peppers. All in all, I would definitely eat this again, but I’m interested to try some of Simply Asia’s products with meats or more vegetables. The whole “just noodles†bit would be sure to get quite boring after a while, delicious or no.
