Food Review Weekly #5
October 8, 2009 | Reviewer: Abi Jones
Hello fellow food review lovers! This edition of Food Review weekly features Canadians and other interesting creatures.
- The folks at Shelf Life Taste Test review 4 different kinds of macaroni and cheese. Or, as they call it in Canada: Kraft Dinner. I’m also curious about these pre-marinated tofu chunks, why haven’t I seen these in America?
- The first paper towels made especially for microwaves:
- Reese’s new Peanut Butter Lovers cups look considerably better than the worst halloween candy ever. (I know, the Halloween candy thing is from last year, but nobody’s really written those blog posts again for this year yet – it is a bit early.)
- For those of you who count candy calories, I suggest this which candy is healthier quiz from FitSugar. I also suggest forgoing the lame candies (Three Musketeers) in favor of the awesome candies (anything with real chocolate and nuts).
- Ellen over at I Ate a Pie tried out Roasted Red Pepper Cottage Cheese. I guess someone’s got to try that stuff.
- This morning the guy in front of me at the grocery store was buying 3 bags of these Doritos late night snacks chips. Now that is what you call planning ahead.
Spray on the flavor! Hot Topper!
What is the best Halloween candy? The worst Halloween candy? Have you ever seen an electric or microwave Hot Topper!?

I’m not quite sure what the best/my favorite Halloween candy is but I know without a doubt that candy corn is my least favorite.
I have seen the pre marinated tofu at Jewel (in Chicago)….lots of weird flavors and while interesting, I wouldn’t buy them again. In fact, I don’t think I have seen them lately.
Worst candy ever– those chewy peanut butter candies that come in the unlabeled black and orange wrappers. Whoever gives those out really really hates children.
i love the repeat of the guy saying “MMMMM!” in the bounty commercial.
I’ve seen the pre-marinaded tofu at Grocery Outlet, so my guess is it hasn’t gone over big in the states.
@Travis – I have to admit that I appreciate candy corn in moderation.
@ibeagoalie – Hmm, Chicago is a bit far to go for tofu.
@JD – YES!….I mean….NO! Those orange and black wrapped “peanut butter” candies are the worst. They are on par with Good & Plenty and Neccos. Ugh.
@Anita – Mmmmmm, microwaved ham and cheese sandwich! I would be upset if my local diner was microwaving things. I can do that at home.
@Jeri – Sounds like I’ll have to go to the Grocery Outlet this weekend.
Abi, I’ve had that Pete’s tofu, and it SUCKS! The texture is just absolutely terrible. They sell it at Acme in NJ.
There are plenty of far better marinated tofus out there.
