Stouffer’s says: Chopped spinach baked with skim milk and eggs. No preservatives.

Paige says: This spinach souffle and the Stouffer’s macaroni & cheese were the only frozen items my mom would allow me to eat growing up. Everything else was homemade. In fact, I wasn’t allowed to eat mac & cheese from a box. When I went away to college and made mac & cheese from that blue box, I realized how artificial it really is. I also liked it.

I hadn’t had the Stouffer’s Spinach Souffle in about 15 years, so I thought it was time to remind myself why I hadn’t been eating it. It’s actually not bad. It does NOT taste like creamed spinach, which I don’t care for at all. t solidifies to the point that if you insert a knife, it comes out clean. Of course, you can make it runnier, but I prefer my souffle with a bit of crisp skin on the outside. And while I enjoy crisp skin on my souffle, I do not like any skin on my pudding. No pudding skin singles for me.

But back to spinach. I love spinach. Cooked or not, I think it’s delicious. My favorite is spanakopita, which is spinach and feta cheese layered between phyllo dough. That’s spinach at its greatest. Anyway, the souffle. It does rise and has a bit of a fluffy texture to it, but I think a real spinach souffle would likely have more seasoning and some diced onion and maybe even some cheese. Alas, this has none of those things. But it’s frozen and cooks in only a few minutes, so I won’t complain. It really does taste like spinach, eggs, and milk. I ate about half of it for a meatless lunch. I also ate a red bell pepper separately, but that’s just because I love red peppers. I was definitely full. Not like some frozen meals that have me craving a candy bar 30 minutes later. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Mmmm, spanakopita. I’m not sure I’ve met anything that tastes bad AND involves pastry, onion, butter and cheese.

You usually crave a candy bar 20 minutes later too?- I thought that might have only been me :) Thanks for the review – I will pick it up and try it. I’d also like to try that spanakopita!

I don’t think I could get over how icky it looks …

    But this is *soooooooooo* good!

It looks like the stuff that my mulching mower spits out (or did before the other half ran over a giant rock with said mower, then disassembled it and left it out in the rain all winter – way to go guy, you are a manly man.)

Hard to believe such a small box could have so much fat and cals. Usually that’s 2 servings for me and someone else. Three servings? Stouffer’s you’re pullng my leg. Not as tasty as it used to be about 2 yrs. ago too. And yes the pic on the box isn’t what you actually end up with! Lawn mulch is about correct.

I usually prefer my meals to be less monochromatic than this souffle, but since I love spinach I’ll keep an eye out for it on sale.

I love this! Just had one last night.

I had this once and just couldn’t get to like it. The consistency is not my style at all, and the flavor of that particular mixture didn’t do much anything for me. I tossed it after a few bites.

I think this is an item that could be used as an ingredient in another dish. It’s just too plain otherwise.

if they took the eggs out and replaced it with cheese. and then switched from skim milk to whole milk…mmm this would be delicious, but it would also be spinach dip.

    yum, spinach dip.

This looks extremely unappealing in the photo that you took. It looks good on the box though…

I seriously think that anyone who doesn’t want to balloon up should AVOID Stouffer’s food entirely. It’s horrible for you. It’s like the Hungry Man meals.

Of course, the only exception to the rule is if you’re reviewing something :) In which case, indulge.

This has been my favourite side-dish since…well, nearly forever. I ‘discovered’ it via an old boyfriend right after I had moved to the states. I was actually living in Georgia, and we would go to the Stouffer’s restaurant there. I always have loved most Stouffer’s foods.

I love Stouffer’s Spinach Souffle with frozen pizza. The two work well together.

Wow! I found it on sale at SavMart(albertson’s).
I am in love with their vegie lasangna(?LOL!) and a spinach freak. I had never seen this, but scarfed up 4 boxes, having no problem with green goo -

Want home and made it (microwave) and went to heaven. I ate half the serving tray and filled up – (I did eat slowly, savouring it – plus it wasn’t totally cooked, because my microwave gets tersty – so it was creamy and souffle-y – and it ROCKED!
With the economy, I can’t really afford the frozen conveinace meals, so I cook pretty much from scratch, but since these were only 1.77 compared to savmart’s $350+., I figured I could do it. Wow!

I went back the next night and bought the 5 boxes left. Since there is only me, I found out that a bowl of my homemade vegie/chicken soup, with a dollop of this in the middle, (about 2 tbs) is out of this world, and stretches it out wonderfully, kinda makes it special –

I am no bon appetite cook, but pretty simple, cooking more for nutrition and fuel – AND TASTE! (without all the additives) (I am a spice fiend)

Now of course, since I rarely see this, I gotta figure out how to replicate it – but I will use more garlic and a bit of cayenne.

Thank you Stouffer’s, for a new wow taste treat!!!! I am not a freezer cruiser, costs to much – but this was right up in the freezer where you come in!
I bought them out. love your recipes inside the box, too -The pakora-fried spinach sounds amazing, and so do those sanka-things – I haven’t used phyllo yet – (I have let it daunt me – my counter top is smaller than a sheet!) but love white sauces and spinach! with other die for tidbits in it -Oh yummy!

    Jen
