Are Uncrustables Safe? Yes….for now.
January 20, 2009 | Reviewer: Abi Jones
In short, yes. At least, according to Smuckers, the company that makes them. So far, products from the companies below have been recalled. Smuckers is not on that list. Also not on that list is Peanut Butter that you buy in a normal home-size jar. This recall is all about industrial peanut butter. Clicking on the [link] will take you to an FDA page with specifics about that recall. I’ll try to update this list as often as possible, but while I was making it two more items were recalled, so perhaps updates are a little out of my league. You can keep track of all salmonella-related FDA recalls here.

I’m SO upset that the Peanut Butter Cookie Larabars were affected – this outbreak is insane!!
I feel fortunate that I absolutely HATE peanut butter.
I bought peanut butter wafer cookies without even thinking about the recall. So far they aren’t on the list, but I don’t think we will eat them anyway.
My boyfriend got violently ill last night … so the first thing I asked him was … “Did you eat anything with peanut butter in it today!?!?” He hadn’t. Damn.
Anyway, thanks for the update!
As long as it doesn’t affect the Whole Foods brand PB, we’re okay.
@VeggieGirl – I’m sad about it too, but my favorite LaraBar is Coconut, so I’m not too dismayed.
@Julie A. – Your crazyness benefits you this time….
@Christine – Yeah, I’m not buying any new peanut butter products, but I have a freezer full of Uncrustables that are NOT going to waste.
@Chavi – You’re welcome. I told my husband about this while we were grocery shopping last night and he still went and bought some peanut butter granola bars.
@Corey V. – At this point it doesn’t affect jarred consumer peanut butter, so you’re safe. For now.
Abi, your husband must want to live on the edge.
I noticed a couple new names on the list. I am throwing out the peanut butter wafers. A shame as they are a favorite in our house.
im not sure, butt today at school i had 2 smuckers uncrustables. i really like them. but at around 1:30 to 3:00 my stomach was hurting really bad. and i usually don’t get stomach aches from eating bread, jelly, or PEANUT BUTTER. it hurt really bad and still does at 3:50 now. Urgh! i don’t know what to do; i think im just going to wait for a few hours to see if any other symptoms have appeared. but hopefully not.
see ya
@Christine – My husband willingly eats random frozen items I select. So yes, he is a brave man.
@jeremiah – I’m sorry to hear that.
My mom runs a food pantry, albeit small, it is still a food pantry.
so she buys all this crap in bulk, and I don’t mean costco bulk. I mean HUGE BULK. you need trucks to tote this stuff.
she has a ton of the peanut butter cliff bars, and has been eating them. but she says she feels fine. so, I’ll update you if she drops dead.
[...] of items recalled in the wide-reaching Peanut Butter Product Recall of 2009. At first I tried listing them all on Heat Eat Review, along with a cute picture. I’m sure this was helpful for the 40 or so people who needed to [...]
