Eating Right says: White meat chicken in lemongrass sauce with vegetable blend and brown rice
Abi says: Eating Right’s Lemongrass Chicken should take my mouth on a vacation in Thailand. My tastebuds should have days full of jetskiing and massages and laying in the sun on a chaise lounge, sipping tropical cocktails.
But this meal was no vaxation, instead it was reminiscent of a movie that haunted and delighted me in 1990: Heathers. All I could think about was the scene where one of the Heathers dies via what I thought was Drano but what actually turns out to be Hull Cleaner (thank you website even more ridiculous than Heat Eat Review). But instead of hull cleaner, the lemongrass sauce tasted like Pine Sol.
I can only imagine that someone in the Eating Right test kitchen had recently discovered real Lemongrass Chucken and then got on such a ridiculous lemongrass kick that his or her colleagues finally said to themselves “We’d better just let Pat develop that lemongrass sauce I’d it’ll be ‘Lemongrass, lemongrass, lemongrass.’ for the next 10 years.’
Unfortunately, nobody ever taste-tested Pat’s creation and found out that it is frighteningly similar to Pine Sol. Add to that sauce four bite-size chunks of chicken, a dismally small portion (granted, it is approximately the size of the portion shown on the box, but Lean Cuisine’s stepped up the game with their ‘Twice the Veggies’ offerings) of vegetable, lay it on a bed of bland sort of brown rice and you’ve got my lunch.
I’d rather play croquet any day.

I thought the Lemongrass one was just o.k. BUT the Sweet and Sour Chicken one is friggin AMAZING and it is without dought the best choice of Eating Right products
i love the lemongrass chicken! i like the texture of the rice, the chicken and the lemonesque taste. LOVE IT!
@Collin – Jess loves Sweet and Sour Chicken, so that would be a good meal for her. I believe that I am allergic to it.
@Candace – Candy! Good to see you! I am going to come visit you in the winter, when it gets cold in Silicon Valley. Also, while I trust your judgment when it comes to cute clothes, I cannot agree with you on this meal. Way to lemony, and in a fake way, not a delicious way.
I just wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t stick up for the Lemongrass Chicken. I was hooked on the taste of this for a little while and with all the usual cheap frozen-food options, similar in every brand, I was so grateful they made this entrea! Maybe I had just been deprived of lemongrass all my life– but I’ve never once reached for the pinesol.
This is actually one of my favorites of the Eating Right options…series….menu….whatever you’re supposed to call it. I like the flavor, the rice, the chicken. It’s all good to this tummy over here!
I loved the lemongrass chicken and I thought there was plenty enough chicken. I can’t wait to try the others I got.
I also loved the Lemongrass chicken! I just tried it for the first time right now and was very pleasantly surprised. I love the Eating Right brand!
I LOVE the lemongrass chicken meal. It also makes the kitchen smell yummy when it’s heated in the microwave.
I just had the lemongrass chicken meal today for lunch. When I sat down to eat it I was suddenly overcome by a scent of lemon cleaning products. The meal itself didn’t taste too bad but the over powering scent of pinesol made it that much worse.
Then I come back to my desk..do a little googling and here I find my exact thoughts on the scent of the meal.
Methinks the writer doth expect too much from a frozen entree. Let’s face it, if I’m at a Thai restaurant, I can have expectations of an experience likening to a vacation in Thailand. Not when I pop a frozen tray into the microwave. These are convenience meals, not eating experiences. I think this was fine. It IS a little strong but it makes me feel like they actually used lemongrass rather than chemically engineered lemongrass flavoring. The pizzas are dang good for what they are. I want to keep my weight down and experience a variety of flavors and textures and with whole grains and vegetables in these, I’m satisfied! Take it for what it is and you may enjoy these a bit more. But good website anyway.
I have a slightly different angle.. So, I’ve had the Lean Cuisine Lemongrass Chicken, enjoyed the sauce, veggies – and dealt with the chicken nugget things. I wanted to try something similar to compare – overall – I’m fine with both, but was most turned off by the gristle, that I found in this one. Other than that – I was happy.
