Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie. ~Jim Davis

Green Giant says: Perfectly steam cooked every time through our new steam seam, Simply Steam Seasoned Vegetables use special blends of herbs & seasonings to accent the natural taste & goodness of delicious Green Giant vegetables.

Becky says: I love steamed veggies, and since this product came out on the market, I ALWAYS have a few boxes in the freezer. Who wants to take the time to take out the steamer basket for the stock pot, wait for the water to boil, wait for the veggies to cook, and then try to fit the pot, steamer basket, and lid into the dishwasher? Not me!

These veggies are SIMPLE to make – all you do is take it out of the box, nuke it, cut open the bag, dump the veggie/sauce mix into a pretty bowl, and ta-da! Fresh steamed veggies, and no dirty pots in sight. The veggies come out perfect every time, crisp, colorful, and tasting fantastic. Who could ask for anything more?

Lately, I’ve been bringing these to work with me as an add-on to my lunch. The only thing discouraging here is that I don’t want to eat just half of the package (it serves 2), so therefore, I’m getting double of the nasties that make an appearance (fat, sodium, etc). But hey, I’m getting my veggies, so I’m just thinking that everything else just cancels each other out.

If you DON’T have this in your freezer right now, something’s wrong. You need to go buy right now. You no longer have an excuse for not eating your veggies. And for that, I’m not sorry!

However, I am sorry that I’m still waiting for my Brussels Sprouts. C’mon Green Giant!

Double true! This is the perfect way to veggie up any meal and climb that ever complicated food pyramid. Some of them promise certain vitamin boosts which I especially like.

What ever happened to the Green Giant commercials? I miss him.

Agreed! I have liked all of the flavors/mixes I’ve tried. They make it nice and easy to add a veggie side to dinner with my husband. And if I’m eating alone, I have a Trader Joe’s chicken-chili-lime burger chopped up and stirred into the the veggies for a light meal. Yum!

I love these Green Giant steamers… although, I can easily eat the entire box in one sitting. Last night we had the olive oil immunity (I think) ones mixed into saffron rice with chicken. It was pretty amazing.

And Abi, thanks for the email! I’m alive and kicking.

I eat tons of steamed vegetable and like fresh better, but these are good and MUCH quicker. A serving of these alongside a veggie burger of some sort (Dr. Prager Bombay!) is a good lunch.

I’m having the Immunity Boost veggies today for lunch — the whole package — alongside one of those Lean Cuisine Spa Meals with brown rice and TWICE THE VEGGIES! That ups my daily veggie intake to FOUR SERVINGS just from this meal! I feel so healthy. I feel like SUPER SECRETARY! I ought to be wearing a cape and tights with my Dockers and button down shirt!

Aside from the superpowers, these steamed veggies taste darn good too!

Oh I love these things!! I always keep these in my freezer, though it is very easy to eat the whole box. I like the unseasoned ones best, my favorite is probably the green beans with almonds.

I love them when on sale or with a coupon … a bit pricey without … but a great way for a lazy man to get his daily veggies.

  8. rob on January 29th, 2008

Lol people talking about eating the whole box, when I have these for lunch or dinner I eat two boxes … they’re veggies, might as well pig out.

  9. Michelle on January 29th, 2008

I got a different point calculation. I got 1 pt per serving - 2 pts for the box. I would never buy these if they were 3 pts per serving…might as well be drenched in cheese if I’m spending that # of points on veggies! :)

  10. Abi Jones on January 29th, 2008

@Michelle - you’re right! I must have copied the points from the previous review. These are just 1 point per serving, so just 2 points per box. Thanks for catching that.

I definitely love these. Actually, I’ve found that this product is one of the few I felt the “serving size” on the package was reasonable. I can really only eat half a box in one sitting (also, I rarely eat it by itself, more as a side dish for dinner). They’re just flavorful enough to be very tasty but not so covered in stuff to take away the healthiness of the vegetables.

Only $7.56 a pound. Some lobster tail with your greens, sir?

  13. Abi Jones on January 29th, 2008

$1.89 for an 8 ounce package means that the vegetables in sauce are actually $3.78 per pound. Still not cheap, but compared to home-made meals everything on this site is outlandishly priced.

  14. Jill on January 29th, 2008

I actually do not like these due to the sauce. I find it better (tastier) to just get the regular ones, pull out what you want and cook it in a bowl with a little water… the microwave does them wonders!

  15. Crow on January 30th, 2008

Oops, thought the serving size was the entire package.

  16. MaryAnne on January 30th, 2008

Rob, that’s the only hang up I have with these. They aren’t “just veggies.” A lot of them feature rosemary butter or olive oil and fat- some boxes, 3 grams per serving, 6 grams per box. I just think that the average person grabs a box of veggies that sound good and assume that since they’re veggies, it’s ok to eat as much as they want, which defeats the purpose. They taste great and definitely aren’t bad for you but I wouldn’t go eating 2 boxes which would be almost half the amount of fat (12 grams for 2 boxes!) for the day for a female that is watching her weight. Just sayin… I do think that there are some packages that have almost no fat though.

  17. Katy on January 30th, 2008

Oh, and these are only 99 cents per box where I buy them.

    Neener neener!

Don’t get too hung up on the fats — not only is a little olive oil good for your heart, a little fat aids the absorbtion of many of those super-duper phytonutrients found in that thar broccoli.

  18. rob on January 30th, 2008

I noticed some of them were high on fat … I try to stick to the leaner ones.

Steaming veggies is actually easy enough for a microwave guy like me to do, though steaming a load of brussel sprouts does make the place smell like brussel sprouts .

Just fixed Green Giant frozen Broccoli & Zesty Cheese Sauce for dinner, what a disapointment ! I did not expect the contents to be all Florets as the box showed but I did expect more than three small Florets with the rest of the contents being hard stalk’s.
This is something I would expect from an Off Brand, not Green Giant.

  20. Kelley on February 26th, 2008

These vegetables are amazing and a life saver for in office lunches…

By the way, I’ve been enjoying the Brussel Sprouts since about the last week of January…perhaps they are not availabe in your area?

  21. Patti T. on March 10th, 2008

I am not sure which kind they were, but we buy the ones with the black beans and I think edame, I had not noticed a sauce, but these are very tasty. They are definitely my new favorite veggie. I think they are very convenient, they contain so many different veggies and they all steam up perfectly.
