Green Giant says: Sliced Carrots, Sugar Snap Peas, Black Beans and Edamame, Lightly Tossed with Butter Sauce. Diets rich in foods naturally containing fiber can help you maintain a healthier body weight.

Becky says: I bought this to supplement my lack of stomach satisfaction in eating a Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones meal. I eat Lean Cuisines and Smart Ones about 90% of the time, since I’m really, truly trying to lose weight now (so I can get pregnant…go figure!).

My first mistake was NOT looking at the nutritional info before nuking this. This is TWO servings? That immediately takes this out of the ‘healthy’ category. The only time I want my veggies to have 5g of fat, they better be covered in cheese, not ‘lightly tossed’ in some butter sauce that I couldn’t even taste. What a waste of precious fat grams!

As you can see in the photo, the actual product doesn’t quite match the picture on the box…black beans make up a lot of this dish. I generally LIKE black beans, but I don’t make it a practice of cracking open a can for an afternoon snack. Green Giant’s are very dry and don’t have much flavor.

The rest of the veggies were quite delicious. I was glad to see that they didn’t skimp on the edamame, and the snap peas and carrots were crisp and fresh-tasting. I just wish that I had carrot/edamame/snap pea aftertaste in my mouth right now; instead, I still feel like I’m still chewing on black beans.

Will I get these again? Probably not – I’m still searching my local grocery stores for the individual sized Birds Eye Steamfresh bags of baby brussels sprouts . . . that will be a happy day.

What version of the Healthy Weight Veggies did you get? There are several. I strongly suggest the rosemary butter ones, however, they have about the same nutritional content. Although, the Green Giant steamers are amazing and fat free.

I want something akin to the Healthy Giant’s body, but proportionate, and not green.

I like these a lot. I eat the entire package as a meal for lunch sometimes; which makes the fat grams and calories not seem so bad at all. I actually could open up a can of black beans and eat them so I dont mind that they are the majority. I dont think it really needs the butter either. The snap peas and edimime are delicious too, I don’t like carrots much but these are decent. They microwave pretty well, but if you have a powerful microwave make sure to watch it, one blew up once.

@MaryAnne - Green Giant makes three varieties in this line. They are described as follows:

    1. Healthy Weight - Diets rich in foods naturally containing fiber can help you maintain a healthier body weight. Contains sliced carrots, sugar snap peas, black beans and edamame lightly tossed with butter sauce.
    2. Immunity Boost - Naturally rich in antioxidants vitamins A & C to help support a healthy immune system. Contains broccoli florets, julienne carrots and red and yellow sweet pepper strips in a garlic-herb infused extra virgin olive oil seasoning.
    3. Healthy Vision - with natural antioxidants luetin & vitamin A to help support eye health. Contains sliced carrots, zucchini quarters, and sliced green beans lightly tossed with rosemary butter sauce.

@Crow - But would you go around in an outfit made from leaves?

@Ori - Thanks for the advice. Is this Ori from DC/anywhere there is some sort of campaign going on?

If you want to approximate what Birds Eye Steamfresh bags of baby brussels sprouts might be like, you can try Ziploc’s Zip’n'Steam bags with any brand of frozen sprouts. They come in medium and large (no small) but the medium can be used for single servings. The bags are great for any frozen vegetables, so you can make your own mixtures. We also use them for frozen salmon and shrimp.

    To respond to everyone…LOL

I haven’t seen any other varieties of Healthy Weight veggies - will have to look a little closer!

That’s a great idea about frozen bags of veggies - and probably cheaper, too, so I’ll have to look into that. Thanks for the tip!

I really like this product. I had the black bean variety. It is very satisfying and a great alternative to SmartOnes for lunch.

I enjoyed this package of veggies. It was tasty and satisfying, and kept me away from the macaroni salad and potato salad that were otherwise on the dinner table.

I loved these. Just tried them for the first time. Didn’t notice that it was majority black beans. Snap peas and carrots made it almost sweet. Loved it. Ate the whole bag for lunch. On Zoo diet aka beverly hills diet, fruits and veggies only! This was a good addition!

These are quite tasty. Okay, they probably don’t NEED the butter sauce, but there are so many choices in frozen veggies these days that the amount added just gives it a nice change from the ordinary. I usually eat these as a side to a small portion of pasta or something similar and a small salad.
