Kashi says: Roasted chicken with a trio of roasted sweet peppers and four signature cheese including asiago with roasted garlic sauce on stone-fired 7 whole grains & sesame with flax seed crust
Abi says: There’s a lot of Kashi love at HeatEatReview.com. We pretty much adore their healthy, filling, flavorful frozen meals. I think that their cereal completely sucks (twigs anyone?) and I’d rather get fiber and protein from about 19 gazillion other sources than a bowl of GoLean. Fortunately for them, this isn’t a cereal blog.
This is a frozen food review site.
And so, looking to once again show that they’re in our good graces, Kashi sent along three frozen pizzas: Mediterranean, Cheese and Tomato, and Roasted Garlic Chicken. Roasted garlic is one of my favorite things. I was a food snob in college, buying fresh-baked bread from La Panzanella and roasting my own garlic in the dorm oven. And I’m still a garlic lover. In fact, last night my favorite part of dinner was a sublimely pillowy and crispy garlic naan at Indique.
I never thought there could be such a thing as too much garlic. I was wrong.
Kashi’s Roasted Garlic Chicken Pizza is smothered in a garlic sauce that slaps you upside the head and says ‘This is what real garlic tastes like, mofo.” But it isn’t a lusciously decadent roasted garlic. No, it is the type of garlic that you get when someone was too impatient to roast and just decided that minced garlic mixed with butter is a perfectly acceptable spread. FYI, it isn’t.
Kashi heaps on more misery with miserly portions of chicken and peppers. I’m sorry, but if this is supposed to be three servings, I don’t want to fight with other people to see who gets three bits of chicken and who gets four. This is luxury pizza with flax and sesame, not a microwave pie from DiGiorno. The cheese makes a healthy (as in large, not good for you), if bland, showing but it isn’t to save the pizza from my high expectations.
And the ultra-healthy, 7 grain, sesame and flax crust? Well, it tastes like it could cure cancer. And maybe Kashi pizza does cure cancer and that’s how they’ll get people to buy this pizza.
I hope I don’t get cancer.

I’m not really getting a good idea of the size of the pizza. I think it looks similar to an Amy’s pizza which I usually get two servings out of (though I think the recommended serving size of an Amy’s pizza is also 3 servings.) For me, Kashi meals are generally fantastic but it seems that there is always one or two ingredients that hinder on the overall whole-grain-cancer-curing experience. I am reminded of the Chicken Pomodoro, delicious whole grain noodles, real tomatoes in the sauce— but the chicken was fatty and terrible. Come on Kashi— we know you can get it right!
“I hope,
I don’t,
get cancer.”
Where’s the rest of the song?
How disappointing. I was looking forward to trying Kashi’s pizza.
@Molly – It is about the same size as an Amy’s pizza and had more cheese, but also significantly less puffy crust. Amy’s does crust and sauce pretty well, Kashi didn’t. Though, I have to say that the Amy’s cornmeal crust was not a favorite at the tasting party.
@Crow – I don’t get it and now I feel like I’m pop culture deficient.
@ Anna – Usually the things that companies send are pretty good. Why else would they go to the trouble to get exposure. Unfortunately, the pizza was a really poor showing for Kashi, a brand that’s otherwise been spot-on when it comes to frozen food. You might like it, but as a garlic/pizza lover, I couldn’t get over the rawness of the sauce and the crackery quality of the crust.
Abi, it wasn’t a pop-culture reference, it just immediately popped into my head as a three stanza jingle.
I went on a late night food run, and I was looking for something that wouldn’t totally ruin my diet. I bought this pizza and I LOVE IT.
Of course I added tomato,mushrooms.onion. and spinach to it…but this pizza was an excellent base.
A far better base than Amy’s.
I love Kashi’s pizza’s. I had the Mediterranian which is the BEST…the “small servings” fill you up (and I need to lose weight) with a nice big salad next to it. The cheese and tomato one is delicious, too. My fave the MED….I have italian blood love PIZZA to no end any and all PIZZA and Kashi’s is the best if you want something good for you. Now, I will order pizza for the kids and get myself one of these for lunch, dinner, and lunch the next day! Yummy!
I don’t eat meat….so don’t know about the chicken
Laughed my butt off at the “I hope I don’t get cancer.” I hope not too, because it sounds like you’d rather croak than eat that crust. I haven’t seen these in Canada, but I gather I’m not missing much.
[...] Most Boring Pizza Ever, this one from Kashi would win hands down. I know, I complained about the Kashi Garlic Chicken Pizza having too much garlic, but this one exists at the complete opposite end of the spectrum. Hello, [...]
“someone was too impatient to roast and just decided that minced garlic mixed with butter is a perfectly acceptable spread.”
Ouch… Just described me to a T. Maybe I’ll like this then!
I loved this Pizza!!!!!!!!!!!very yummy. My husband and son hated it though……………
My grandduaghter, age 6, her mom, age 33, and I (60) all love the Kashi Pizzas a lot. We find the crust different and delicious and overall very filling. The two pieces with a salad or fruit suit us fine. I am going out to buy more this morning. I think this is like most different pizzas not going to be a male favorite. That’s OK. There are other choices galore for them. We hope Kashi will keap making this pizza for girls like us!! As for their cereals we love them as well.

[...] a light garlic flavor to foods, they should get on the horn with Kashi and help them rescue their Garlic Chicken Pizza. The garlic was so much in the ‘hint’ category that I didn’t worry about heading [...]
I have to disagree with Abi on this one. I love this pizza!!! It’s very delicious and nutritious.
My 10 yr. old neice loved it too and wanted more. 5 starts from me.
I too have tried KAshi frozen products and they are very poor and the company does not respond to complaints. Do not purchase
Chicken was dry. The taste of sauce was almost non-existent. The cheese was nearly tasteless, too. And…the crust. Was like eating box in which it came (I know it’s a whole-grain crust but sheesh)
