And I’m not likely to enroll in one of those any time soon.

I always wondered what this was like. I’ve looked it over and almost bought it several times and now I’m really glad I never did. There is a vegan organic brand that is slipping my mind at the moment that makes a pretty good eggplant parm, but its not fantastic. I guess eggplant parm doesn’t translate to microwaveable meals well… I wish Amy’s would step up and perfect it.

Plus it’s effing horrible for you! That’s such … a waste of a meal. Thanks for the heads up.

I like Michael Angelo’s Eggplant Parm. I had it for lunch today (yes, I paid for it - not a free one) and it was delicious! Granted, you’re not going to get restaurant-quality EP out of a microwave, but when I don’t feel like eating meat it is definitely one of my favorite meals.

    Shortest. Review. EVER.

Also, this week at the school for sadomasochists we’re learning how to make our own whips.

    But one of the funniest!!!

So, did you even taste it? Did you heat it up, only the throw it away?

Enquiring minds want to know! ;-)

“And I’m not likely to enroll in one of those any time soon.”

This is both disheartening and unfortunate.

I took a single bite of the food and then had to run to the trash can to spit it out, that’s how horrible it was. The picture on the box looked fantastic (so much cheese!) but I shouldn’t put much faith in those.

That saddens me, as the frozen ravioli (of the non-microwaving variety) by this brand is one of my favorite foods ever.

I strongly disagree with this review and encourage anyone who is curious about this product to go check it out. I found this page while I was searching for a way to buy this stuff online, since the supermarket I go to seems to have stopped carrying it. I’m really surprised the reviewer disliked it so much. It’s been one of my favorite microwave dinners for a while now, along with Amy’s samosa wraps and black bean burritos. I generally top it with some fresh grated Parmesan for extra flavor. I’ve never had real restaurant eggplant parm, so I can’t make that comparison, but as microwave meals go I really think this is one of the better ones. The only real problem is that the edges tend to burn, but that’s kind of the nature of microwave food…

You are crazy. You rate smart ones macaroni and cheese a 5 and this a 0?!?!?!

  12. Abi Jones on November 27th, 2007

Eggplant - If you’re after some tasty diet macaroni and cheese, then the Smart Ones item deserves a high rating. However, if you’re after some tasty Eggplant Parmesan from the freezer, I suggest you check out Trader Joe’s Eggplant Parmesan and Michael Angelo’s Eggplant Parmesan. Either is a fantastic alternative.

I agree with Graham - I’ve eaten this numerous times and enjoyed it. The sauce is a bit tart. I don’t mind the mushiness somehow. Perhaps that’s because I bury the meal in about 2 oz. of shredded mozzerella during the last couple minutes of microwaving :)

Hey came and found this after eating one!

I completely disagree with the review. These things are very close to what you’d get if you bought a store bought egg parm and left it in the fridge… sure it gets mushy, but it is frozen and nothing seems to be added to “stiffen” it. The sauce is very good, a bit plain, but more natural tasting than most frozen tomato sauce for sure. Living in the NYC area, we have tons of great italian places. Is it as a good as fresh eggplant parm? No. But its the closest frozen kind I’ve had.

I found this via a VEGAN web pointer. If it has Dairy (cheese), it cannot be vegan.

  16. Abi Jones on April 10th, 2008

@Renee - Enough cheese seems to fix anything.

@Mark - Please let me know which frozen eggplant parmesans you’ve had that were worse than this one. I’d like to know what to avoid.

@Kenneth - You’re right, items containing real cheese cannot be considered vegan. This is why on Heat Eat Review we’ve clearly labeled this a vegetarian item, not a vegan one. Sadly, we don’t control the rest of the Internet, thus you’ll have to take up the issue of an incorrect link with another site, not ours.
