Lean Cuisine says: Seasoned roasted beef accented with onion in a homestyle beef gravy with sliced mushrooms. Accompanied by our traditional macaroni and cheese, made with specially aged cheddar cheese.

Adina says: They say to cook this meal for over 6 minutes with no stirring, but I would suggest flipping the meat over at 3 minutes. This will prevent you from spending your precious lunch hour chewing on gravy-covered rubber.

I remember reading Nicole’s review of the Dinnertime Selects Salisbury Steak and thinking, “But I like hamburger meat.” I don’t know how Salisburians eat their steak, but I, as a lazy American, like my Salisbury steak tasting like burger and covered in gravy. And so isn’t it convenient that I found this meal! And while the gravy would not elicit high praise from the grave of my Jewish grandmother, I honestly think the taste is not half bad.

But what I love best about this meal is the macaroni and cheese. It is creamy and the pasta melts in your mouth. Maybe it melts in your mouth because it is overcooked, but who cares because it is covered in cheese. The cheddar taste (yes you can really taste the cheddar!) complements the milder gravy taste, and I think that is why this meal is so good. At least, it does not force me to the nearest vending machine, searching desperately for something to fill the microwave meal void.

Overall, I would rate this meal four stars - a great lunch that satisfies your appetite and does not require my grandma to wake from her eternal slumber to add a pinch of salt and spoonful of chicken fat.

Dunno, for your grandmother, could always do tofu cheese on the macaroni, I guess, with the meat.

the lean cuisine version is good, but when it comes to the salisbury steak/mac n’ cheese combo i’ve gotta throw my support behind the boston market version. satisfying on all levels.

I *mostly* hate hamburger meat, except when it meets freshly chopped onions and processed American cheese and somehow magically becomes delicious. I had this meal a year ago-ish and I remember I also thought the best part was the mac. I thought it was the only good part, actually. I don’t like these mystery-meat esque “salsbury steaks” that the frozen food industry makes. I just realized that this meal also comes with processed meat and onions, like the white castle/mcd’s plain cheeseburgers I love, but it was still nasty for some reason.

Thanks to this website I now know what salisbury steak is. Is it supposed to be some kind of trick meat for people who can’t afford/don’t like steak? I don’t get it. Essentially isn’t it just a hamburger?

I’m totally boggled by the idea of having both mac-n-cheese AND salisbury steak in the SAME Lean Cuisine meal. First desserts, now dual entrees? What craziness is going on at LC Central?!

After about 3 days on 1 serving of meat (I had other stuff, just not meat) my body cried out “GIVE ME MEAT!” So I gave it this meal instead. :p I gave it this meal cause Adina said the mac&cheese was good.

The meat was surprisingly tender. I could cut it with a fork and didnt have to naw the edges off to get at the edible portion.

The mac&cheese was good enough - nothing fabulous but not the disappointment that the Kid’s Cuisine mac&cheese always turns out to be.

To me, it tasted like it needed more salt, but I didnt add any cause I figured this meal would have enough, even if I couldnt really taste it.

I think i would get this again. Thanks for the great review Adina!

Man, just had this today. It really needs some seasoning, on the Salisbury steak and on the mac. It’s like… someone took this food and adjusted the “brightness” and “contrast” bars towards the middle. Gravy - check, mushrooms - check, cheese - check, soft pasta - check, “salisbury steak” - check. They’re all their. But they taste like ghosts of themselves. It’s so disappointing.

This meal is a great example of why I’d rather die of a heart attack at 58 than eat diet food.
