Kashi says: Chicken breast with broccoli florets, carrots and sugar snap peas, Kashi 7 whole grains and sesame with red quinoa pilaf, lemongrass & coconut sauce topped with coconut flakes
Nicole says: As usual, the grain mixture in Kashi’s entree is a great break from the plain white rice, basmati rice, and various noodles that accompany not only the frozen meals I generally eat but also the non-frozen meals I sometimes get to have thanks to delivery restaurants or boyfriend-who-can-cook. This one also includes red quinoa, which adds visual appeal
The broccoli, carrots, and snap peas in this meal are striking in color – they look so fresh and bright. They bear out that first impression in retaining some firmness and crispness, and some nice flavor, especially from the carrots. The chicken was flavorful and firm, and served in a generous portion. I think it was 9 or 10 small and medium sized peices, easily enough for a piece per bite.
Sadly, the sauce was a disappointment. I know you guys think I’m the connoiseur of trashy, salty frozen food, but I was soo excited to try the lemongrass coconut healthy entree. The coconut flavor was there, but subtle. The lemongrass I detected a hint of, but I’m pretty sure it was psychosomatic. This is also exactly the kind of sauce I was thinking Kashi should be pairing with their shirmp entree, so finding it accompanying with the chicken… why can’t you take my advice? So, no big flavor here, but it allows the chicken and veggies shine through.
I would definitely eat this meal again, as it is subtly tasty and well-textured. It also filled me up well for a lunch. And I assume, even though I didn’t read the nutritional info, that it’s pretty darn healthy.

It looks and sounds delicious. It’s too bad I’m on a diet or I’d be all over this. The only thing Kashi should work on is the price. I saw them at Whole Foods for $5.00 (plus some change) and thought it was very overpriced. I can go up the street to Crazy Bowls or Roly Poly and buy a wrap for that price and it’s much larger, healthier, fresher, and tastier.
MaryAnne, how is this not a diet meal? Its 320 calories?
Colleen-
Read further. It’s not just calories that count. It’s 9 grams of fat, 44 carbs (…carbs that are from starches, not veggies; I’m not anti-carb by any means. They just have to be the right carbs), and 700 grams of sodium. While this meal is healthy (much much much healthier than some of the other meals on this site) it’s not necessarily diet-friendly. It’s not for someone (i.e. me) who is looking to lose weight so she can fit into her bathing suit on the cruise she hopes her boyfriend “surprises” her with.
True, true, that is a lot of carbs and sodium. But the carbs are kind of good carbs, as they contain 7grams of fiber to keep you full. And while sodium is bad for your heart/blood pressure and can shorted your lifespan, it doesn’t make you fat. This meal isn’t as healthy as it could be I now realize, but if you’re looking to lose weight its all about calories taken in vs. burned and this definatly is a low cal meal.
Hi there! You may have had a “bad” box. I just ate this dinner, and the lemongrass in the sauce was very bold. I love lemongrass, so I want it nice and strong — and it is! Maybe you’ll have better luck on the next one! (Hopefully mine isn’t the exception!)
Not so much a lemongrass flavor as much as ginger flavor. Very abundant ginger flavor. The chicken and veggies taste good and the meal altogether is filling enough. This is the first one I’ve tried so I am anxious to try other entrees.
Just tried the Kashi Lemongrass Coconut Chicken meal. It was delicious. The flavors popped. The lemongrass and ginger flavors seemed well blended and easily enjoyed/discerned with each bite of the vegetables and pilaf.
I have found a recipe on line with many of the same ingredients and will try to cook this myself. It is that good.
PS. I bought this for $3.59 at Fred Meyer Store (Kroger) in the nutrition center aisle. So not sure why prices vary
This is the second Kashi frozen meal I’ve tried (the other was the pesto pasta). Each time I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how good they are. These meals are actually quite healthy compared to other frozen options. Look at the ingredients on a Lean Cuisine or SmartOnes meal… the list goes on forever… most of which I’ve never heard of. Everything in the Kashi meals is easily read and understood. They are a great, wholesome option for people looking for something quick and great tasting!
mmmm! I loved this, it was exactly what I expected and was one of the best frozen meals I’ve had in a while (before I had bought like 6 healthy choices to try and they were nasty-their meat had a filler or something). Kashi went on sale for half off (now 1.79 plus tax) at publix- so i bought a few to try- wish i bought more! i will stock up next time they go on sale!

I live just outside Atlanta and Kashi frozen meals cost around $3.20 each here.
I picked up several last night at Kroger priced Buy one Get One free for $4.49 making them only $2.50 each.
I LOVE all these meals. The high Fiber and Protein offered in these more than offsets the 44 g. carbs… All the meals are very filling, tasty and even though I am dieting, they keep me FULL for a long time… longer than a WW or Lean Cuisine.
I am eating 4-5 320 calorie meals a day and alternating excercising/weightlifting for one hour a day 6 days a week. It works!
The pruchased the product for under $4 at Harris Teeter and for a frozen meal it has the most wonderful flavor which awakened my taste buds!
As far as I’m concerned its a winner with me, GO Kashi !!!!!!!
I bought this yesterday at Bi-Lo (S.C.) and couldn’t wait to try it, so I brought it to work for lunch today. I thought it was absolutely horrible! And it smelled terrible! I couldn’t even eat more than a couple of bites, and I was starving! I do not recommend it!
This meal was awesome! Was trying to find a suitable replacement to the lemongrass chicken Lean Cuisine that I used to buy all the time. Like Nicole said, the grain mixture is such a nice alternative to the rice and noodles that I usually eat.
They must’ve changed their recipe, too – while it’s still 10 oz, it now has 300 calories, 8g fat and 38g carbs…hope it’s not a case of false packaging and that they HAVE improved on an already great meal!
Kashi foods are great. The lemongrass coconut chicken tasted ok. I think it would have tasted a lot better if the smell didn’t remind me of lemon scented Endust.
I actually wasn’t impressed with this. It wasn’t as good as the Chicken Floretine. Either the lemongrass or the giner were really REALLY strong in mine, which made it almost unappetizing. I wished I could have tasted the coconut.
Yuck. I am sorry but both me and my daughter found this disgusting. It tasted like chicken mixed in with lemon Vicks vapor rub. Lemongrass way too strong and almost menthol tasting ?? I have liked the other Kashi meals so far, though. I couldn’t even taste the coconut, chicken, or anything else. The sauce was just too strong.
Either they changed the recipe, or a lot of people have no idea what lemongrass tastes like. It does taste strongly of lemongrass, but not unpleasantly so (but I like lemongrass). The coconut flavor is subtle. This meal was delicious, but I would not recommend it to anyone who doesn’t like Thai-style dishes with clean, citrusy flavors.
This was THE most awful frozen meal EVER!!! And when I looked and saw it has 300 calories I WAS SHOCKED. Yuck REALLY REALLY yuck. I am shocked that ANYONE likes this. The chicken was like chewing a washcloth and the taste is horrible. I am glad it was a free coupon. Excuse me now while I go wash the taste out of my mouth.
I normally love anything Thai with lemongrass but this was so bad! The lemongrass flavor and scent completely overpowered any other flavor in the dish. No coconut flavor, no flavor from the chicken or veggies! I am now chewing my 2nd peice of mint gum and can’t get the flavor out of my mouth! Same as above, thank goodness I got it with a free coupon!
Love all the Kashi products and really like Thai food. The Lemongrass Coconut Chicken was superb. I’ll very definitely pick this one up again. Like many new flavors, lemongrass may be too foreign of a taste for many and you do see it in some of the other reviews. The herbs used in some ethnic cuisine are an acquired taste and if you are an American meat and potatoes and gravy eater you may find this one to be too different. I really liked it.
I just tried the Lemongrass Coconut Chicken dinner and I thought it was fantastic. I would love to be able to make this type of dish for my family. I wonder if Kashi sells the grain combination in a dried type–like instead of rice. Loved the flavor and the crunchy grain flavor
Though I usually love Kashi, I found this to be just awful. I would liken it to eating a lemon flavored sponge with pieces of chicken thrown on top. You can almost taste the coconut chicken and broccoli while eating, but the after taste is 100% lemon cleaning product.
I thought that this was one of the best frozen entrees I have ever had. My two kids also loved it. Maybe I liked it because I love Thai food. In any case, the only thing I did not like was the high sodium content.
If I have more time, I might try to duplicate the recipe in the future, but for convenience, a microwavable dish can not be beat. I picked it up on sale at Target for $3.
I also liked the crunch of the quinoa.
I thought there was enough lemongrass/coconut/ginger flavor.
I opened the lemongrass coconut chicken frozen box and thought that I would be hungry after looking at the contents. I was surprised at the wonderful texture and taste, and also to find that I was satisfied at being full after the meal. The grains make you chew longer and do fill you up. Nice sizes of chicken breast strips too. I would definitely buy again.
I was surprised by the negative comments, this was my first Kashi frozen meal and I was blown away, it was so unbelievably good. The coconut is rather subtle, and the lemongrass very strong, but to me that was the best part. The grain mix was tasty, chewy and filling, and the vegetables perfectly cooked. I got mine with a free coupon at Kroger ($5.79 original price) but bought more later for $2.75 at Walmart, where they are clearly not so snobby with their pricing, lol. Overall, my favorite frozen meal, hands down.
I’m not crazy about frozen meals either, but since it was Kashi and on sale at King Soopers, I tried one. I was very pleasantly surprised. The lemongrass coconut chicken was very tasty and a decent portion. It has a fresh flavor and the white meat chicken was tender and yummy. I am racing back to King Soopers today to buy all the rest while they’re on sale!! Yummy, healthy, filling, guilt free, cheap, frozen lunch….SHUT UP!! Thanks Kashi!!
I found this meal to be awful. While it was heating, it smelled like furniture polish and then when I ate it, it tasted like furniture polish. The lemongrass flavor overpowered the entire meal and I found it to be disgusting. What’s worse is that after brushing my teeth and having a really strong cup of black tea, the taste is still in my mouth. (3.5 hours later) It also did not digest well. I will not eat this again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
