Linda McCartney Butternut Squash Ravioli

I imagine it is pretty hard to fill Linda McCartney’s shoes even if you are a one-legged, activist model. Perhaps that is why I was drawn to Linda McCartney’s meals last night in the grocery store.

The ravioli’s appearance didn’t meat (haha…I typed meat and didn’t notice until I went back to edit) my expectations from the photo on the box. The photo is colorful and the squash and roasted pecans look bright and appealing. The actual food was monochromatic and a bit off-putting. After my first bite, I said aloud, “It’s al dente!” with glee. After a few bites I realized it was rather chewy in several places, but chewy is still better than soggy pasta.
The meal was tasty in the way that anything drenched in butter and smothered with cheese is tasty. Unfortunately I could only taste the squash in a few bites, but the buttery, cheesy pasta was still good.
At 470 calories, the meal is too highly caloric to make it into my regular rotation of lunch time frozen food, but I would eat this again.

I just had this meal and I just want to say that it deserves FIVE stars, not four. I love butternut squash, and had never had it with cheese but found that really amazing. The only bad thing I can say about it is that the delicous mushroom gravy flavor wasn’t one that went very well with the also delicous cheesy butternut squash ravioli. Still, this was one of the best frozen meals I’ve ever had. And I’ve had a a large variety of ‘em over the years.
Oh, and I don’t know weather you used a mocrowave or a conventional oven, but I cooked this in the oven. Just a side note.
Where in Connecticut can this be purchased?
Naturally, I lower my expectations as to what I would consider to be “food†when presented with a frozen entrée. I am a long time, often dissatisfied, Lean Cuisine consumer. This particular meal looks more like dog food than anything I would expect a human would be willing to ingest, even by LC standards. Thankfully, Wegmans doesn’t sell Linda McCartney meals in the store where I shop. I would expect better looking slop from a homeless shelter.
I see all of the other comments on here are from a year ago. This has always been my favorite frozen meal until recently. And I’m not even a vegetarian. I hadn’t eaten these in a while and ran into them at the grocery store yesterday. I excitedly bought two (overpriced at $4.00 each) packages of them.
I heated some up today and spit out my first bite because it was so discusting. The filling has completely changed and is the exact texture of my daughter’s baby food. It tastes horrible now. I thought I had to be wrong, so I started picking through the whole dish. The only thinkg they seemed to have changed is the filling in the raviolis. They have completely ruined the best frozen food I had ever eaten. I am so disappointed!
Has anyone else noticed this change?
This is one of my favorite frozen dinners. I love the sauce with the mushrooms and the nuts. It may not appear as attractive as the picture on the box (frozen dinners rarely do) but it is better than any squash ravioli I have ever had. Unfortunately our local grocery stores no longer carry this product, but I love it so much I buy it online.
Pricey, but good. This used to be my favorite frozen meal, but now it’s a toss up between this and the Lean Cuisine Butternut Squash ravioli. When my local store stopped carrying this product, I had to settle for LC. They’re definately two different flavors, but I like that the LC also has veggies that go with it (the good kind, not the crappy soggy ones). 5 stars, in my book!
