Kashi says: Chicken marinated in lime juice, cumin and olive oil, grilled then sliced. Served over our Kashi® 7 Whole Grains Pilaf, tossed with fire roasted onions and corn, green and red peppers and topped with southwestern sauce.
Nicole says: Wow! Flavor! Texture! Nutritious and low-cal!
I generally won’t spend over $2.50 on a frozen entree. At Giant last night, however, these Kashi frozen entrees caught my attention – they are a new offering from Kashi and Giant has them on sale two for $6.00 (reg. price @ 3.50.) Not a huge savings, but the clean white box and tasty looking pictures were alluring.
The first ingredient is the grain/sesame pilaf. This is not something I’d normally choose to eat, but it has a lovely texture; it is moist but not mushy. Next on the list is chicken, and it is a nicely sized portion – about 8 or 10 small-medium peices and one large peice. The chicken tastes like chicken and has the texture of chicken – it’s like someone actually cooked lunch for me. The veggies are well represented save the “fire-roasted onions” – there were only a couple onion peices. The corn really LOOKS fire roasted, just like on the box, and cooks up pretty crisp. The peppers are just a bit soggy. The seasoning of the meal is outstanding – it is tasty and you really can detect the lime juice and cumin.
The Kashi Southwest Style Chicken is medium-sized for a frozen entree, and the caloric content is very low, but it manages to satisfy my appetite. After trying this meal, I look forward to the three other Kashi entrees I purchased, and would definitely buy this one again. I don’t think I’d pay above the sale price of $3.00, though the quality is worth it, only because I’m cheap. I would definitely recommend this product, and would even if they weren’t sending me a $5 coupon since I followed the instructions on the box and completed a survey about the meal.

Geez, I’m lucky if I find a frozen dinner for only $2.50 here on this rock in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Anyway, I’ve always been curious about Kashi products. Their cereal boxes have faces of smiling people, which makes me wonder if they’re smiling because the Kashi cereal is good.
I love these meals. The protein fills me up. My favorite is the Chicken Pasta Pomodoro.
If you loved Kashi – you would really love Soy Protein Based Medifast Meals – a healthy diet and good 5 meals a day. And I saved $55 on a month of meals using the coupon code offered by RedtagDeals.com (http://www.redtagdeals.com). So, I got a month of satisfying rich protein based meals for $220 using the coupon code. I love the Kashi meals too. Costco retails 4 pack under $10 .. So at $2.50 a meal or less, it is a great meal. Chicken Pasta Pomodoro and Sweet and Sour Chicken taste delicious. Way to go Kashi. I have always been a big fan of Kashi Cereals too, They taste great and nutritionally balances and low cal with high protein. Just what the doctor ordered:)
Medifast seems to be working well for me so far, but I have only been on it for 2 weeks. I have lost 8 lbs. Thanks for your blog, it is very useful!
I luv Kashi frozen meals!! Of all that I have tried, they are the most nutritious and not full of additives/preservatives. I (reluctantly) buy them from WalMart – they cost about $2.50, much cheaper than any of my local grocery chains. I also find the other Kashi products very tastey…their new GoLean bars and other granola treats are a staple in my household.
I love your cereal products and use them regularly. Will you be having any kosher entrees?
looking forward to trying this one tomorrow.
I have never been one to eat frozen/microwave meals, but I love Kashi cereal and have eaten it at leased twice a week for the last two years. When my friend Lindsay had Chicken Pasta Pomodoro for lunch, I fell imediately in love. I went out and bought about ten of them that very day!
My favorite dinner is the Lime Cilantro Shrimp…..it’s soooo good!! I usually purhase mine from Wal-mart, but they only carry 5 of the flavors. I pay about $3.30 for the meal which is a little pricy, but if you compare that to the $5.40 I was paying for lunch at Subway everyday, I am actually saving money.
What I like about them is that they are so low in calories you can add a side such as a cup of fruit or a bowl of veggies and still find it very easy to maintain a very low calorie diet. If you are like me and don’t snack, you could eat three of the meals per day as well as a bowl of Kashi cereal for breakfast and still stay within 1000 calories. Wow!! what a great thing!!
Thanks Kashi,
Katherine(DPT)
I love your products but read constantly that microwaved meals
lose their nutrients. You only use directions for microwave. You say
do not put them in a small oven. Can I heat them in my large oven
oven?
I love the Lime Cilantro shrimp too. It’s my favorite, these are honestly the best frozen dinners I have tried. Especially for their nutritional content, and my willing-ness to clean the plate.
[...] lovely texture, especially for microwaved grains. Too bad this meal did not rock my world like the Kashi Southwest Chicken. There was too much sauce that was too light in flavor. Sure, it has a lot of hyphens, but the [...]
I’m new to the Kashi meals, having tried Lean Cuisine (which was OK, but nothing to write home about!), Healthy Choice (mediocre), etc.
Today, while shopping, I spyed the Kashi next to the above. This time, I actually read the carton and loved just the very idea of the ingredients.
So, home four of them went. Tonight, after my 4-mile walk, I tried the Shrimp with Lime and Cilantro and thought I had died and gone to Health Heaven. It had texture, color, fiber and wonderful flavor! I’m hooked on at least that one, and I’m sure I’ll love the others as well.
I love healthy food but don’t always have the time to cook it. Kashi has done us all a great service by making it easy for us to the right thing by our bodies.
Bravo, Kashi!!
Dianne
I have tried the lime cilantro shrimp, the chicken pomodoro, and just today the pesto penne and vegetables and I have been pleasantly pleased with all of them. The shrimp one was tasty, not my favorite, but it was good. I think I was thrown off by the super chewy texture of the brown rice/barley it was in, but otherwise very good. I haven’t tried the black bean and mango one yet, but I will. Reading the box I was thinking that black beans and mangos mixed together is not something I’d eat, but who knows – maybe it’ll be a favorite.
I’d like to receive coupons for your product. We love it.
Does anyone know if you can put these in the oven?
We just bought a bunch and didn’t even think to see if you could prepare them in the oven. Now I see its only microwave which is odd. Has anyone tried to bake them?
I really want to try them, and we don’t even own a microwave. lol.
One of my favorite frozen dinners. Not spicy enough for my liking, but I just add a bit of crushed red pepper and I’m good to go. Kashi’s Southwest Style Chicken is a incredibly tasty low-calorie/low-fat meal that I’m willing to dish out the few extra bucks for.
